How the Victorian Points Test works

The Victorian Points Test (VPT) is how Victoria ranks people for state nomination on the 190 and 491 visas. Your total is out of 950, built from seven factors. There is no pass mark: Victoria invites the highest totals first. The figures below are for the 2026-27 program year.

Two ways to be invited

  • Highest totals overall. Every round invites the highest VPT totals across all occupations.
  • Highest totals in a priority industry. Every round also invites the highest totals within each priority industry or subgroup. This is an extra chance for priority occupations; they still compete in the overall ranking too.

You still need 65 SkillSelect points

VIC only ranks EOIs that reach 65 points on the standard SkillSelect points test. The VPT does not replace it; it only orders the EOIs that already qualify.

Questions

What is the Victorian Points Test?

The Victorian Points Test (VPT) is the scoring system Victoria uses to rank skilled nominations for the 190 and 491 visas. It is scored out of 950 across seven factors: age, English, work experience, education, skill level, partner skills and earnings in Victoria.

Is there a pass mark for the VPT?

No. Victoria does not publish a VPT pass mark. It ranks eligible EOIs by VPT total and invites the highest totals first.

Do I still need 65 SkillSelect points?

Yes. VIC only ranks EOIs that reach 65 points on the standard SkillSelect points test. The VPT then decides the order within that group.

Does my occupation need to be a priority occupation?

No. Every round invites the highest totals across all occupations, and the highest totals within each priority industry or subgroup. A 2026-27 priority occupation gets that second route as an extra chance, and it also matters for the partner factor.
